Critical Data - 2004 545i, 85K miles, battery is 5 months old (BMW dealer installed and registered), original alternator (not sure if Bosch or Valeo). Surpentine belt is adjusted properly and all connections (including ground) at battery and under hood have been checked and are solid. IBS has been tested and is operating properly.
Completely unscrew and then remove the negative (black) terminal first, and cover it with plastic. 5. Pop open the red plastic cover on the positive (red) terminal, completely unscrew it and remove it from the battery. It moves up and out of the way easily. 6. I have had the same issue. Need new voltage regulator. If you do a rebuild alternator only do one that has a new voltage regulator! If your alternator is quite with no bearing nose you can just change regulator. Good to know someone else has had the same issue and was able to resolve it!
Dynamic Drive Malfunction + electrical chaos SOLVED! If you have the following happen to you. This seems to be very common on E60's after 60k miles. Btw I have 05 545i sport package with 65k miles. - After 30 minutes driving or in traffic you get the Dynamic Drive Malfunction and radio cuts out for about a second or two.
